Combination of an Acetyl-Coenzyme A Carboxylase Inhibitor and Fibroblast Growth Factor-19 Reduced Tissue Triglyceride Content and Fibrosis in Human Precision-Cut Liver Slices
This collaborative poster from Gilead Sciences and FibroFind, presented at the International Liver Congress 2021, explores how combining an acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase inhibitor (ACCi) with fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) affects lipid accumulation and fibrosis-associated changes in human precision-cut liver slices.
Liver tissue from three donors was challenged with lipids, TGFβ1 and PDGFββ, while ACCi and FGF19 were evaluated individually and in combination. The combination reduced tissue triglyceride accumulation and key histological markers of steatosis and fibrosis across all three donors.
The findings highlight the potential of human PCLS as a translational model for investigating NASH and evaluating prospective therapies in biologically relevant human tissue.
